Fostering & Adopting a German Shepherd

Thank you for offering to open your heart and home to a German Shepherd from Rettungs-Haus Shepherds, Inc.

We are a not-for-profit, volunteer based organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of German Shepherds in need.  The German Shepherds are then placed into foster homes until we approve their forever home.

Once medically cleared, socialization begins and is reiterated on a daily basis both in the foster home and by attending classes sponsored through Rettungs-Haus Shepherds, Inc.

Training is a lifetime commitment of which Rettungs-Haus Shepherds, Inc. is committed to offering and supporting long after the adoption process has been completed.

Adoptions fees include spay/neuter surgery, up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm & fecal testing, microchip, collar, tag, leash, food, toys, obedience and socialization training through Rettungs-Haus Shepherds, Inc. with our dedicated group of volunteers.

The following information will allow us to determine what dog will be the most compatible with your family and lifestyle. The dog's welfare is our primary consideration when completing an adoption therefore, some applicants may be refused if we feel our criteria is not met.  Rettungs-Haus Shepherds, Inc. reserves the right to refuse an applicant without further explanation.

If you live at a rented residence, we will need an approval letter from your landlord allowing a German Shepherd to be on the premises; as landlord's insurance providers may contain breed specific policies. Please note, we do not write letters for Emotional Support Animals, and we can only provide documentation for dogs having completed our Service Dog Program.

Becoming a German Shepherd Foster

Rettungs-Haus Shepherds, Inc. desires qualified fosters for the many shepherds in need of being rescued and placed in a loving home. Since we do not board any of our rescues, we rely on our list of approved fosters which allows us to immediately place a dog in need. When placing a dog, we make every effort to consider the foster's lifestyle and capabilities. If desired by the foster, we also offer a foster-to-adopt option after closely considering the success of each dog within their foster home.

OUR FOSTER APPLICATION PROCESS:

NOTE: We appreciate your patience in this process as we are a volunteer-based organization.

To be considered as a foster home for our organization, you must meet the following requirements:

  • If you rent your home, you must have consent from your landlord to have a German Shepherd on the property.

  • Agree to have a home visit done by one of our volunteers. The volunteer will need to see the areas of the home where the dog will be allowed and also visit with family members and current pets.

  • Provide transportation of the foster dog to and from veterinary visits, grooming appointments, and classes sponsored by Rettungs-Haus Shepherds, Inc.

  • Must have vet reference if applicable.
